The Promised Land

One sullen night I left my land and parted for the sea

For on the horizon a beaming light held everything I need

“Surely, surely,” I told myself while filling full of glee

“It’s just ahead, there in the water, soon within my reach.”

So I followed the shadow so full of light that stretched across the sea

A promising path, a faithful guide, whose light shone down on me

But soon a fog had filled the air so that I could not see

Then left me there, my friend now fading, barely beckoning to me.

I sailed the sea of fog unto a land among the sea

A breeze then cleared the foggy world revealing many trees

Above the trees a mountain holds my friend upon its peak

My bright companion calls to mea promise full of peace.

I journey through the sulking trees with sadness in their leaves

Whispers travel through the airtheir eyes are watching me

Words of warning fill my ears for which I pay no heed

I climb the rocks unto the top until I reach the peak.

I should have listened so I sit here sadly self-deceived

My glowing friend still in the sky so far away from me

I stretch my hand out toward the light though sadly cannot reach

I weep, I sink into the ground, becoming like the trees.

As I wallow in my sorrow waiting the decease

A seed of light falls from the sky and lands among the trees

Some curious light upon the land my wondrous eyes must see

And once I do, I stand astonished, I cannot believe.

Some angel fairy from the sky stands glowing front of me

She stares at me, her hand outstretched, hair blowing through the breeze

I take her hand, we travel to that light above the sea

Above the trees, amongst the stars, the promised land of peace.

This world of white, so beautifully bright, the land of milk and honey

Oh what a sight, though dark as night, still somehow seemingly sunny

That lonely rock we left behind now leaves me feeling funny

My veins are tickled, stomach giggles, heart so fiercely running.

Until the end of time we stay here dancing, you and me

Twisting, bending, turning, winding, remembering not the sea

Love undying, eternities tying, beloved ecstasy

You’re all that lives in this small world though everything I need.
